“Some people don’t drink coffee, some people don’t eat chocolate — but I think everybody uses soap,” says Chris Clarke.

What began for Clarke as a hobby after leaving her job at Susquehanna Pfaltzgraff to have children evolved into Sunrise Soap Co. and has grown over the past 18 years into several brick-and-mortar locations, including its newest in Lancaster.

The shop that started in the heart of York City at 29 N. Beaver St. can now also be found at The Fountain Shoppes in Park City Center, in Gettysburg and at the Eastern Market in Springettsbury Township on Friday.

“We make what I believe are the best products in the world. We make everything with love — that’s the most important ingredient, but we also use a lot of high quality things … shea butter, cocoa butter, castor, olive, soy … and everything starts with that,” Clarke says. “Just making the best because we feel that people deserve the best.”

“Life is so short, I think, if you find your passion — and if you can turn that passion into making a living from it … that’s really the secret to having success in your life," she says. "It is a long, long road, and I hope I have a long, long road ahead of me — because we’re growing."
