Grilled cheese, please: York restaurants offer a week's worth
Nothing says comfort food like the grilled cheese sandwich.
And nothing says York cuisine like making comfort food decadent.
That's why the York City Independent Restaurant Association, the group responsible for the highly successful Restaurant Week promotion, is following that up with Downtown Grilled Cheese Week, Saturday through April 29 at 13 restaurants in downtown York.
Last year, the group marked National Grilled Cheese Day with a selection of twists on the classic. It was so successful, the promotion has been extended to a week.
For grilled cheese purists, Central Family Restaurant and Isaac's on the Fly offer their own variations on the classic grilled cheese and tomato soup.
For those who think no sandwich is complete without meat, The Left Bank offers a braised beef short rib grilled cheese with cheddar, caramelized onion and horseradish aioli on griddle marble rye, while the Holy Hound Taproom has pork roll and American cheese on sourdough bread, with or without a fried egg on top.
If you can't pick just one, Mudhook Brewing Co. has a grilled cheese sampler flight, three sandwiches paired with three different beers.
Grilled cheese for dessert? Roosevelt Tavern comes through with strawberries and cream on grilled brioche with powdered sugar and creme fraiche.
More varieties are available at the other participating restaurants: The Handsome Cab, Pepper's Grille at Central Market, Rockfish Public House, Tutoni's, White Rose Bar and Grill and Zanelli's at Central Market.
