What's happening in York this weekend
Learn about the world of owls on an Owl Walk, 7 p.m. Friday at Nixon County Park. A wildlife rehabilitator will lead an indoor session with a close look at a local species or two, followed by a quiet hike in the woods while calling for owls. Dress for the weather and bring a deep-red tinted flashlight. Ages 10 and up. Free, donations will be accepted to support wildlife rehabilitation. Registration: 428-1961.
Find out what happens when guys crash a "Girls' Weekend," a comedy at the Belmont Theatre, formerly York Little Theatre, 27 S. Belmont St, Friday through Jan. 22. Don't let the cold keep you from star gazing. The York County Astronomical Society will hold a free public starwatch, 8-10 p.m. Saturday at the observatory in John Rudy County Park. Members will guide a tour of the January skies, and star charts will be provided. Program will be canceled if there are clouds, rain or snow. The Cultural Alliance offers a week of free community cultural celebrations in CeLeBRaTeARTS, Sunday through Jan. 21. The schedule includes York Story Slam, Tuesday at the Holy Hound; Counterculture, the first collaboration between the York Symphony Orchestra and the audio/visual duo Aortic Valve exploring the auteur cinema of the '60s and '70s, Wednesday; Comedy at the Capitol, featuring the adults-only comedy of J. Bliss and Ben Bergman, Thursday at the Capitol Theatre, 50 N. George St.; and Fun Family Day at the York County History Center's Agricultural and Industrial Museum, Saturday, Jan. 21. The artwork of Brenda Wintermyer will be featured in "Just Brenda," an exhibit open Sunday through Feb. 11 at the York Art Association, 220 S.
