York City is starting the holiday celebrations early with a Holiday Open House theme for First Friday, 5-9 p.m. Friday throughout downtown York.

First Friday is organized by Downtown Inc and sponsored by WellSpan Healh.

Some highlights:

Jazz in the City, 5-7 p.m. at the Strand-Capital Performing Arts Center Studio, 50 N. George St., Philadelphia Street entrance, featuring vibraphonist Tony Miceli, bassist Hassan Shakur and drummer Jeff Stabley.

Make Papel Picados by cutting paper into elaborate designs, 5-8 p.m. at Creative York, 10 N. Beaver St.

Gallery exhibits: At Creative York, La Luz de la Gente in partnership with the York County Hispanic Coalition, Topological Elements by Fiel Patricio; Day of the Dead altar by Catalin Ruz; at Creative York West, 118 W. Philadelphia St., Light: Out for a Walk by Jay Jackson; at HIVE artspace, 126 E. King St., Miniature Art Show, limited-edition pin for the first 25 guests.

First Friday Free Family Film Series presents "Home Alone," 7 p.m. at the Capitol Theatre, 50 N. George St.

Live dance music, 7-11 p.m. at Elks Lodge, 223 N. George St., with Mama Tried. $15 cover.

Plus food and drink specials at restaurants through the area, specials from merchants and beer tasting from The Beer Ace and Brewery Products.
