Celebrate Harvest Fest during First Friday throughout downtown York.

The event runs 5-9 p.m. Friday. Here are some highlights:

Kids can play at the York Academy open playground, 6-8 p.m., 28 W. North St.

HIVE Artspace, 126 E. King St., opens its Annual Spooky Art Show with a reception, with treats for the kids, Tarot card readings and a limited edition button for the first 25 guests.

Tour the Smyser-Bair House, an 1830s mansion, 30 N. Beaver St. Features include gilded mirrors, etched glass, woodwork and chandeliers rivaling museums.

Tales & Ales tavern tasting, Golden Plough Tavern, 157 W. Market St., with tastings from Liquid Hero and music by the Wild Hymns in the backyard, walk-through tour of the historic tavern and harvest stories from colonial days. Suggested $5 donation.

Pecan recipe contest at Goodridge Freedom Center, 123 E. Philadelphia St. Bring your favorite pecan-based baked goods for a cook-off. Author Scott Mingus will give a tour, expected to begin shortly after 6 p.m.

Join Dorothy and crew for "The Wizard of Oz," free, 7 p.m. at the Capitol Theatre, 50 N. George St.

Plus beer tastings around town, specials on drinks and food from restaurants and many other activities. Information:
