Booklovers, be ready. The York County History Center's annual Book Blast runs through Saturday at the Agricultural and Industrial Museum, 217 W. Dachshunds take to the streets as Small Star Art House hosts its first Wiener-Dog Parade at 5 p.m. Friday. The theater, 232 W. Market St., will screen the film "Wiener-Dog" at 5:30 p.m., after the parade. Parade participants and their well-behaved humans are welcome to check out the theater's art gallery before the film. DreamWrights Center for Community Arts presents "The Beverly Hillbillies," Friday through Aug. 21 at the theater, 100 Carlisle Ave. The play follows the familiar tale of Jed Clampett and his family, who go from "poor mountaineer" to Beverly Hills after happening on an oil well. The Belmont Theatre presents the musical "Side Show," Friday through Aug. 21 at the theater, formerly York Little Theatre, 27 S. Belmont St. The story is based on the lives of Siamese twins Violet and Daisy Hilton, who became stars during the Great Depression as part of a side show. Get a free preview of the York Symphony Orchestra's upcoming season, 10 a.m.-noon Saturday at Central Market in downtown York. Conductor Lawrence Golan will perform four sets on the violin, accompanied by Ken Osowski, associate professor at York College, on the piano, showcasing pieces that Golan will perform with the YSO.
