York Weekend Extras 12-11: Nutcracker, Sinatra tributes

Greater York Dance presents its seasonal favorite, "The Nutcracker," 7 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday at the Strand-Capitol Performing Arts Center, 50 N. George St. The ballet features dance students performing with members of the Midstate Ballet and guest artists from major professional companies from around the world. There is also a children's tea hosted by The Enchanted teapot before the Sunday matinee in the second-floor lobby at the theater, the cast will attend for autographs and photographs. Celebrate the 100th birthday of one of America's top performers with Sinatra Forever: A Tribute to Frank Sinatra, 7 p.m. Friday at The Eichelberger Performing Arts Center in Hanover. Sinatra fans will have a second chance to remember Ol' Blue Eyes when Sinatra tribute entertainer Norman Spangler appears for the York Jewish Community Center’s Tuesday Club. "A Christmas Carol"

Totem Pole Playhouse will take the stage at Gettysburg College’s Majestic Theater for "A Christmas Carol" through Dec.20. The timeless Dickens classic comes to life with all the flourishes, from Scrooge to the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future. The York County Department of Parks and Recreation will present its annual animals-in-winter hike, 2:30-4 p.m. Sunday at Nixon County Park. The hike, led by naturalist Mary Ronan, will take place along pre-winter trails to see if animals are prepared for the long, cold days ahead. Hear holiday music from local high school musicians as WHVR 1280 presents the second annual Hanover Eagles 1406 Christmas Concert Series. At 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. weekdays Monday through Dec. 24, the radio station will broadcast 30 minutes of Christmas concerts performed by students from New Oxford High School, South Western School District, Delone Catholic High School, Hanover School District, Yorkshire Academy Music Ensemble from Lincoln Intermediate Unit 12, Littlestown School District and York Catholic High School.
