York Weekend Extras for 8/21: 'Cyrano,' YSO, comedy basketball

Orangemite Shakespeare Co. takes on a different classic as it presents "Cyrano de Bergerac." The tale stars the man with the big nose and the quick sword who loves the beautiful Roxanne and is persuaded to be the foil by causing Roxanne to fall for Christian. Performances are at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and Aug. 28-30 at The Barn at Tall Fir Acres, 2035 Tall Fir Drive in Dover. Lawrence Golan, music director and conductor of the York Symphony Orchestra, will offer a special performance, 10 a.m.-noon Saturday in the dining area of Central Market, York City. Golan will play violin for four, 15-minute sets of "Autumn" from Vivaldi's "The Four Seasons" and speak with attendees along with members of the orchestra, the York Junior Symphony Orchestra and the York Youth Symphony. Jack "HoopWizard" Ryan will present an interactive comedy basketball show with motivational messages, 1-1:45 p.m. Sunday at the York Jewish Community Center, 2000 Hollywood Drive. York College will host a free exhibition of the art of printmaking by the founders of Drive By Press. "Driven" will be featured in the Cora Miller Gallery in Evelyn and Earle Wolf Hall Friday through Sept. 19. An artist demonstration will be held 1-5 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 3, outside Wolf Hall. Interested customers may bring their own T-shirts or purchase one from DBP. A reception will follow at 6:30 p.m.
