The First Friday theme for August is Sidewalk Sale, with events throughout downtown York including sidewalk sales by many merchants.

First Friday runs 5-9 p.m. Friday throughout downtown and is organized by Downtown Inc. The first block of North Beaver Street will be closed to vehicles 4:30-9 p.m., and Duke Street in Royal Square will be closed 6-9 p.m.

Here are some of the highlights:

Royal Square will be a splash zone, with a water balloon toss, water balloon dodgeball and capture the flag at the parking lot beside 199 S. Duke St. Also on the square, food trucks, live music, karaoke and water gun battles.

At 6:30 p.m. at Trinity United Church of Christ, 32 W. Market St., Rachel Mitts, a 2013 graduate of York Suburban High School and a musical-theater major at West Virginia University, will give a concert of Disney classics and classic and current Broadway show tunes.

ART in mARTin will open its latest exhibit, "Contrast," at Martin Library, 159 E. Market St. The art will be displayed at the library through November.

CoWork 155, 155 W. Market St., photo exhibit of the first year of Kable House Presents independent concert series.

Olde York Tavern Tastings in the backyard of the Golden Plough Tavern, 157 W. Market St., $5 for tastings of craft brews, live music and tours of the tavern, 6-8 p.m., offered by the York County Heritage Trust.
