Obituary

Jane Elizabeth Landis, of York Pennsylvania passed away on August 28, 2022 at home surrounded by family. Born January 25, 1940 in York to William and Mary Jane Smyser Wogan, Jane grew up in York, attended Saint Patrick Church and School, graduated from York Catholic High School in 1958, and from Immaculata University in 1962. Jane is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Robert C. Landis MD. Jane and Bob were married in York at Saint Patrick Church in 1963 and moved to Philadelphia where Jane was an elementary school teacher and supported Bob while he was at Hahnemann Medical School. Following their time in Philadelphia they lived in Fairfax, VA before returning to York to raise a family. Throughout her life Jane put her family first. When Bob was starting his medical practice, she joined him as his office receptionist. When this role ended, she spent countless hours supporting her husband behind the scenes. As an active member of the York Hospital Medical Auxiliary, she dedicated her time to raising funds for the York Hospital. Her favorite projects for the auxiliary were The York Hospital Fete, Daffodil Days, the Christmas card project, the Spring and Fall Luncheons and the annual Fashion Show. Jane was proud to be one of the first women on the Board of Directors for the Country Club of York where she had been a member since childhood. She was an active board member from 1998 to 2003. She participated on numerous committees including the House and Membership committees. Jane’s passion for volunteering included participation in the Junior League, The Women’s Giving Circle, and cooking for Our Daily Bread. Jane’s priority was her family. She spent countless hours helping her children with schoolwork, surprising them with educational trips to Philadelphia, Baltimore, and Washington, cheering them on at swim meets and basketball games and driving them wherever they needed to go on a moment’s notice. Her granddaughters were the light of her life. She would drive hours so as not to miss a Halloween parade, a Grandparent Day at school or any athletic competition they participated in. Jane ended every phone conversation with “Just call if you need anything”. Jane’s family knew that if they needed her, she would drop everything and be there for them. In addition to her husband Bob, Jane is survived by her daughter Cathy Ferguson of Newtown Square, PA, her husband William Ferguson and their children Ashley Saunders Zhu and Elizabeth Wogan Ferguson; and son Robert C. Landis Jr. of Boyertown, PA, his wife Stephanie Landis and their children Taylor Jane and Cassidy Rebecca Landis. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to York Hospital - WellSpan York Cancer Patient Help Fund, WellSpan York Health Foundation, 2500 South George Street, York, PA 17403 or to Saint Patrick School, Holy Trinity School 219 South Beaver Street, York, PA 17401. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, September 3rd at Saint Patrick Church, 231 South Beaver Street in York, where she has been a member since 1940.
