Bartow, Mary Wilton Sechrist, of Manhattan and Millbrook, New York, died on August 12th after a brief illness. Born on June 1,1956 in York, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of Mary Louise Wilton Sechrist and Stephen Stanley Sechrist II. After graduating from York Country Day School in 1974 which she attended for 12 years, she earned her BA in Art History from Smith College in 1978. Mary Bartow spent her entire career at Sotheby’s, the international auction house, where she was Global Head of the Print Department and recognized as one of the world’s leading experts in impressionist, modern, and contemporary prints. In addition to her husband of 41 years, Francis D. Bartow II, she is survived by her brother, Stephen S. Sechrist III, Hannah Sechrist Burns (Joseph), nieces Mary Wilton Newton Burns, Hannah Diane Sechrist Burns, Madeleine Bartow Morris, and nephew, godson Philip K. Bartow III, aunt and godmother, Louise Wilton Bupp, and numerous cousins in the Wilton and Sechrist families. A memorial service will be held on September 9th at 11:00 am at the Church of the Heavenly Rest in Manhattan. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Dutchess County SPCA, www.dcspca.org.
