John David Rothermel

North Codorus Township - John David Rothermel, 64, of North Codorus Township passed away, Saturday, October 9, 2021 peacefully at his home. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Rae Ann; a son, Kyle and his wife, Christi; his dog, Bandit; and his extended loving family.

John was born on October 24, 1956 at York Hospital. He was the son of the late John E. and Margaret E. (Trevitz) Rothermel. John grew up in Manchester, PA and his family later moved to West York. Growing up, John was active in Little League baseball, track and field, scouting, and various music organizations. He graduated in 1974 from West York Area High School. While in high school, John participated in track and field. He ran relays and sprints. He played trombone and tuba and participated in symphonic band, marching band, brass ensemble, and the "Little German Band". He was also a member of the West York Varsity Club.

John attended Mansfield State University and York College. He graduated from York College in 1978 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Police Science and Corrections.

Upon graduation, he worked for Wells Fargo Guard Services, BAE Systems as a security officer, timekeeper, and an inventory auditor. He was a corrections officer at the York County Prison for 25 years. Upon retirement, John also worked for Schaad Detective Agency and York College of Pennsylvania as a parking enforcement officer.

A viewing will be held Friday, October 15, 2021 from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 noon at the Etzweiler-Koller Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 2000 West Market Street, York. Following the viewing, graveside services will be held at Susquehanna Memorial Gardens, 250 Chestnut Hill Road, York. For those desiring to only attend the graveside service, please meet at the entrance to the cemetery at 12:15 p.m. on Friday. The York County Prison Honor Guard will honor John at the viewing with a casket watch and a flag presentation at the graveside service on Friday.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 4250 Crums Mill Road, Suite 100, Harrisburg, PA 17112.
