The music was back on in the York Revolution clubhouse Sunday night.

Players were a little more jovial.

There was good reason for that. The Revs had just defeated the Bridgeport Bluefish, 5-3, in front of 3,347 fans at Sovereign Bank Stadium.

York collected 13 hits, marking just the second time this season that the Revs had double-digit hits in a game. Starting pitcher Corey Thurman looked a lot better in his third start of the year. And the bullpen, for the most part, was lights out.

More importantly, Sunday's win snapped a three-game losing streak and improved York's record to 3-7. Despite their rough start, the Revs are still within two games of the Somerset Patriots for first place in the Atlantic League Freedom Division.

Sunday's win came after Revs' manager Andy Etchebarren had a closed-door team meeting following Saturday's 13-7 defeat to Bridgeport.

"It's kind of like 'Etch' said, it is early but it's also early for other teams, too. They got a lot of guys on their team who are hitting really well," outfielder Stephen Douglas said. "I think if we get just one of our top guys hot, everyone else will come around."

Douglas started in center field and hit leadoff on Sunday in place of Scott Grimes. The move ended up working out for York. Douglas picked up a hit in each of his first two at-bats.

His leadoff single in the first inning started a two-run rally that was capped off by an RBI single from James Shanks. Douglas and Shanks were two of four York players with multiple hits. Everyone but shortstop Joe Spiers, who started in place of Danny Gonzalez, picked up a hit.

It's exactly what Etchebarren was hoping to see out of his players after he told them Saturday not to arrive at the stadium on Sunday until 3:30 p.m. for a 5 p.m. game, skipping the team's usual pre-game batting practice.

"I told them 'We're gonna sign autographs, go to chapel, and go play the game.' Did it work? I don't know," Etchebarren said. "At least we got as many hits today than we got all year."

Etchebarren might have liked what he saw out of Sunday's lineup changes, too. He said he's not sure if he'll change the lineup in York's next game at Long Island on Tuesday.

"I'm not gonna know what I'm gonna do until I get to Long Island," he said. "I got two days to figure that out."

Thurman: In his previous start last Tuesday against Camden, Thurman surrendered four earned runs on five hits in just 21/3 innings. On Sunday, he held Bridgeport to one run on four hits in four innings, throwing 43 of his 69 pitches for strikes.

Salvador Paniagua hit a solo homer in the fourth inning to extend the lead to 3-1. The Revs added a pair of runs in the seventh on a two-run single from Ramon Castro.

Relievers James Houser (1-0), Stephen Penny, Dumas Garcia and Adam Thomas combined to throw four scoreless innings. Closer R.J. Rodriguez gave up two runs to the Bluefish (7-3) in the top of the ninth and worked out of a bases-loaded jam to finally seal the win after a 39-pitch inning.

Roster moves: The Revs released right-handed reliever Santo Luis, who allowed four hits and two runs in three appearances (four innings) this season.

The team also placed right-handed reliever Ricardo Gomez (bone chips) on the disabled list and right-handed reliever Shaun Garceau (tendinitis) on the inactive list.

Next game: York will next travel to Long Island (6-4), where the Revs will play the first of a three-game series on Tuesday.

York left-hander Ryan Feierabend (1-1, 4.66 ERA) will face righty Joe Esposito (0-2, 11.32 ERA).
