The York College baseball team opened its final eight-game stretch of the regular season with a 7-6 10-inning loss to Rowan University on Monday afternoon in York.

The Profs improved to 25-10, while the Spartans fell to 19-18.

Dustin Worthman banged out three hits and scored twice for York. He is now just three hits short of 200 for his career. Justin Cohen and Russ Patti also collected three hits each for the Spartans. Colbe Herr and Jimmy King added two hits apiece for York.

The Spartans stranded 14 runners in the loss while Rowan left 10 runners on base.

YORK'S HILL HON ORED: York College freshman pitcher/infielder Payton Hill has been selected the Capital Athletic Conference Softball Player of the Week after banging 14 hits in 30 at bats, good for a .467 batting average last week in eight games. She also finished with four doubles, three homers, a .900 slugging percentage, a .500 on-base percentage and 12 RBIs. She drove in six runs in a win at Washington College.

SPARTANS' WOMEN'S TENNIS TEAM ENDS WITH LOSS: The York College women's tennis team ended its 2013 season with an 8-1 loss at Frostburg State University in the first round of the Capital Athletic Conference Tournament on Sunday afternoon. The Spartans finished at 4-13. The Bobcats improved to 8-8. Emily Price won the Spartans' only point for the day with a 4-6, 7-6, 7-6 win in singles.
