Senior Drew Frankenfield banged a game-winning single up the middle with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to lift the York College baseball team to a walk-off 6-5 victory over Messiah on a cold Wednesday afternoon in York.

Colbe Herr's double and Justin Cohen's single set the stage for Frankenfield's game-winner.

The Spartans swept the season series from the Falcons. York improved to 10-12, while Messiah fell to 6-15.

Cohen led the Spartans, going 3-for-5 with a run scored. Frankenfield finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored, while Dallastown High School graduate Derek Pitzer also had two hits for York.

Mike Sarecky earned the win, tossing a perfect ninth inning to improve to 1-1. Josh Kohn started and allowed two unearned runs on three hits with five strikeouts and three walks during his five innings. Zach Philippi pitched scoreless seventh and eighth innings for York.

OTHER YORK COLLEGE NOTES

LACROSSE TEAM SUFFERS ONE-GOAL LOSS: The York College men's lacrosse team had their first-ever game as a nationally ranked program go the wrong way. The Spartans, ranked No. 18 in NCAA Division III, dropped a 10-9 non-conference loss at Ursinus College on Wednesday night in Collegeville. The loss snapped York's five-game win streak. The Spartans fell to 9-3. The Bears improved to 6-3. Andrew Gamble led the Spartans with three goals and two assists. He also had four ground balls. Tyler Hutson added two goals and an assist, while Seth Krolus had a goal and an assist. Krolus also had four ground balls. The Spartans were 0-for-7 in the man-advantage.

GOLF TEAM SECOND AT TRI-MEET: The York College golf team competed at DeSales University with Moravian College at a tri-meet on Wednesday at Brookside Country Club in Macungie. Moravian won the event with a team score of 318, while the Spartans finished second at 323, followed by the host Bulldogs at 329. The Spartans were paced by freshman Tyler Keim, who fired a 6-over-par 77. Keim finished second individually, one stroke back of Moravian's Jim Maru. Junior Kevin Long finished fourth with an 80. Eric Stauffer added an 82 for York, tying for eighth. Ryan Wolbach was York's final scorer, tying for 11th with an 84.
