Junior Erica Mulford had five goals and an assist to power York College to a 13-8 victory over visiting Catholic on Wednesday in a battle of nationally-ranked women's lacrosse teams.
York, ranked No. 10 in NCAA Division III, improved to 4-1, while Catholic, which came in ranked No. 13, fell to 1-2.
It was the first home game of the season for the Spartans.
Mulford now has 12 goals in five games in 2013.
Senior Leah Schultz added four goals, all in the first half, for York, while fellow senior Kim Wayson added four points (three goals, one assist) to give her a team-high 23 points to start the season.
Schultz also recorded a game-high seven draw controls and collected two ground balls. Senior defender Katie Vautier snagged a game-best five ground balls.
Ashley Smith picked up the victory in the York goal, making 11 stops.

HICKS NAMED FIRST- TEAM ALL-REGION: York College junior forward Brittany Hicks has earned first-team All-Atlantic Region by D3hoops.com.
The York Catholic High School graduate led the Spartans in scoring (16.4 points per game) and rebounds (11.0 per game). She shot 44.3 percent from the floor and converted 75 percent from the free throw line. Hicks made a Capital Athletic Conference-high 188 trips to the free throw line. She led the CAC in free throw attempts and made free throws for the third straight year. She finished tied for second in the CAC in scoring, was second in rebounding, sixth in field goal percentage and seventh in free throw percentage.
Hicks enters her senior year having scored 1,086 career points with 682 rebounds, 499 free throw attempts, 143 assists and 101 steals. She is a two-time All-CAC selection. The D3hoops.com honor is the first time she has been selected as an all-regional player.
BASEBALL TEAM GETS FIRST HOME WIN OF SEASON: The York College baseball team got its first home win of the season on a brisk Wednesday at Jaquet Field, besting Elizabethtown, 9-5.
The Spartans improved to 5-4, while the Blue Jays fell to 4-9.
The Spartan offense went off for 15 hits, with every member of the starting lineup contributing at least one hit. South Western High School graduate Colin Porter led York with three hits, while also scoring twice. Andrew Hershey, Dallastown grad Derek Pitzer and Adam Bartholomew each finished with two RBIs.
Senior starter Josh Kohn picked up his first win of the season, tossing 52/3 innings with seven strikeouts. He allowed two earned runs. Sophomore Zach Phillipi picked up his first save of the season, allowing one hit in two shutout innings. He struck out two.
MEN'S LACROSSE TEAM LOSES TO NO. 7 SALISBURY: Salisbury, the No. 7 team in NCAA Division III, earned a 9-3 victory over visiting York College in the Capital Athletic Conference men's lacrosse opener for both teams on Wednesday night.
The Sea Gulls, who are the defending Division III national champions, improved to 6-2, while the Spartans fell to 4-2.
Tyler Hutson, Seth Krolus and Andrew Gamble had York goals. Freshman Caleb Abney made 16 saves, but absorbed the loss in goal for York.
The Sea Gulls outshot the Spartans, 45-20.
TENNIS TEAMS LOSE TO SALISBURY: The York College men's and women's tennis teams suffered identical 8-1 losses at Salisbury on Wednesday.
The Spartan men fell to 8-4 overall and 0-1 in the Capital Athletic Conference, while Sea Gulls improved to 3-4 and 1-1. Jake Greenstein got York's only win at No. 5 singles in three dramatic sets (1-6, 6-4, 11-9).
The York women dropped to 2-7 overall and 1-0 in the CAC, while the Sea Gulls improved to 4-2 and 1-1. The only win for the Spartans came from Red Lion High School graduate Megan Jones, who earned a straight-set win (6-2, 6-3) at No. 6 singles.
