Two York College athletes earned weekly honors from the Capital Athletic Conference on Monday.

Sophomore infielder Sara Thacker was named the CAC Softball Player of the Week after batting .476 (10-for-21) with seven doubles and a homer for a .952 slugging percentage. She helped the Spartans win half of their eight games during a spring break trip to Myrtle Beach, S.C. Thacker also had three walks and a .500 on-base percentage. She had just one error in 67 defensive opportunities for a .985 fielding percentage.

Junior midfielder Daniel Schuck was named the CAC Men's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week after winning 56.6 percent of his faceoffs (30-for-53) and collecting 19 ground balls in two games for the Spartans. Schuck was particularly strong in Saturday's two-goal victory at Randolph-Macon, where he was successful on 20-of 31 faceoff opportunities and had 12 ground balls while committing just one turnover.

OTHER YORK COLLEGE NOTES

ROSENKRANTZ IS SPARTAN ATHLETE OF WEEK: Sophomore men's tennis player Matt Rosenkrantz has been named the York College Spartan Athlete of the Week.

Rosenkrantz went a perfect 5-0 in singles play during the Spartans' trip to Hilton Head, S.C. Rosenkrantz went 4-0 in the No. 4 singles slot and 1-0 in the No. 3 singles flight. He won all of his matches in straight sets and surrendered a total of just 12 games all week, including a 6-0, 6-0 win over St. Louis Pharmacy's Matt Respicio.

In doubles play, Rosenkrantz went 3-2 when teaming with Jake Greenstein in the No. 2 doubles slot. The duo lost its first two during the trip and then ran off three straight wins.

For the season, Rosenkrantz is 7-2 in singles play and 5-4 in doubles play.

SPARTANS LOSE PAIR IN SOFTBALL: The York College softball team suffered two losses in its home opener against Shenandoah University on Monday afternoon at Spartan Stadium.

The scores were 6-3 and 5-3 in eight innings. The Spartans fell to 4-10, while the Hornets improved to 8-6.

In the opener, Vanessa Mendez and Cara Rubinaccio both finished 1-for-2 with a run scored for York, while Hannah Hugel was 1-for-3 with an RBI. Sara Thacker paced the Spartans in Game 2. She was 1-for-2 with two RBIs. Sarah Harris was 1-for-2 and added one run scored. Mendez also added an RBI.

Morgan Levine took losses in both games, but she pitched well in the second contest, going all eight innings and allowing just two earned runs.
