The York College softball team concluded its spring trip to Myrtle Beach, S.C., on Thursday with a sweep of Penn State Hazleton and Penn State Harrisburg.

In Game 1, the Spartans downed Hazleton, 9-1 in five innings. York completed the sweep with a 4-0 shutout of Harrisburg.

Freshman Morgan Levine picked up the win in the opener, allowing an unearned run on two hits with three strikeouts in five innings.

Sara Thacker continued a torrid spring trip with three hits, three runs scored and an RBI. Two of her three hits were doubles, her sixth and seventh of the year. Jena Ruby went 2-for-3 with a career-high five RBIs, while she also scored twice. She hit her first collegiate homer. Senior Hannah Hugel chipped in with two hits and two runs scored.

Levine was even better in the win vs. Harrisburg, twirling a two-hit shutout with a career-high nine strikeouts in seven innings. Levine, who did not walk a batter in the two games on Thursday, allowed just two singles in the win. She improved to 4-5 with her two wins for the day.

Hugel paced York offensively in the second game, going 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored. Thacker was 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Jessica Canami and Aryn Johnson each had a hit and a run scored.

The Spartans ended their eight-game trip at 4-4. Their overall record is 4-8.

The Spartans are slated to open their home campaign at 3:30 p.m. Monday when they host Shenandoah in a non-conference twinbill.

OTHER YORK COLLEGE NOTE

BASEBALL TEAM DROPS 8-7 DECISION: The York College baseball team concluded its stay at the Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach, S.C., with an 8-7 loss to Eastern University on Thursday morning.

The Spartans and Eagles are both now 4-3.

Andrew Hershey paced York's offense with three of the Spartans' six hits. He also had an RBI and two runs scored. Justin Cohen was 1-for-5 with two RBIs.

The Spartans are slated to make their 2013 home debut on Saturday afternoon when they welcome the University of Scranton to Jaquet Field for a non-conference contest. First pitch is set for 1:30 p.m.

MEN'S TENNIS TEAM WINS PAIR: The York College men's tennis team earned a pair of wins Thursday in Hilton Head, S.C., beating St. Louis Pharmacy, 8-1, and Alvernia, 7-2.

Against St. Louis, Tyler Cheatham, Nathaniel Hoskins and Matt Rosenkrantz each won in singles and doubles for York. Eric Cooperman and Daniel Erk also earned singles wins. Against Alvernia, Rosenkrantz again won in singles and doubles. York's other singles wins came from Cheatham, Erk, Mario Herrera and Tim De Young.

York improved to 8-3.

WOMEN'S TENNIS TEAM LOSES TWO: The York College women's tennis team lost a pair of matches on Thursday in Hilton Head, S.C., to St. Louis Pharmacy, 5-4, and Alvernia, 6-3.

Against St. Louis Pharmacy, Emily Price and Emily Skutnik won in singles and doubles for York. Against Alvernia, Jennifer Innamorato won at No. 3 singles for York, which fell to 2-6 overall.

WOMEN'S LACROSSE TEAM ROLLS: The York College women's lacrosse team jumped out to an 11-0 halftime lead and never looked back en route to a 12-4 victory over Ursinus in Clearwater, Fla.

York, which is ranked No. 11 in NCAA Division III, improved to 3-1. Ursinus fell to 0-1.

Kim Wayson led York with four goals and two assists. Erica Mulford added two goals and two assists.

MEN'S LACROSSE TEAM LOSES FIRST: The York College men's lacrosse team dropped its first match of the season on Thursday at Haverford, 14-8.

York dropped to 3-1, while Haverford improved to 1-2. Tyler Hutson led York with five goals and an assist.
