The York College baseball team notched a pair of wins in windy Myrtle Beach, S.C., on Wednesday.

The Spartans downed North Carolina Wesleyan 12-3 in the opener and completed the sweep with a 10-2 victory over Mount Aloysius in the nightcap. The Spartans improved to 4-2, while North Carolina Wesleyan fell to 7-12 and Mount Aloysius dropped to 3-5.

In the opener, junior catcher Colbe Herr led the Spartans, banging out a career-high four hits, to go with an RBI and a run scored. Senior captain Justin Cohen added three hits, four RBIs and two runs scored. All three of Cohen's hits were for extra bases. He banged out his first home run of the year in addition to notching a pair of doubles. Senior captain Jimmy King added two hits, an RBI and a run scored.

Sophomore Josh Miller earned the win, tossing six strong innings. Miller allowed two runs in the first inning but then settled in and struck out six, walked three and allowed four hits. Sophomore Zach Philippi allowed an unearned run in his three hitless innings of work. Philippi struck out five.

In the win over Mount Aloysius, junior Brad Wenzel threw eight strong innings. He allowed two runs on six hits with two strikeouts and two walks. It was the longest outing by a Spartan starter this year. Chris Wolf pitched a perfect ninth for York.

Drew Frankenfield and Colin Porter each banged out three hits to pace the Spartans. Frankenfield drove in three while Porter, a South Western grad, scored twice and drove in another. Cohen was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored. J.J. Oleniacz and Dallastown grad Derek Pitzer each had a pair of hits, while Oleniacz scored twice and drove in another.

The Spartans finished the day with 22 runs on 29 hits. They also drew 16 walks.

OTHER YORK COLLEGE NOTES

SOFTBALL TEAM EARNS SPLIT: The York College softball team split two games at the Snowbird Softball Classic on a windy Wednesday morning in Myrtle Beach, S.C., on Wednesday. The Spartans fell 15-6 in five innings against Ursinus and then came back for a 6-1 victory over Penn State-Hazleton. The Spartans are now 2-8. In the loss to Ursinus, Hannah Hugel led the Spartans, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI. Sara Thacker went 1-for-2 with one run and run RBI. In the win over Penn State Hazleton, Aryn Johnston went 3-for-4 with one run and four RBIs, while Vanessa Mendez was 2-for-2 with two runs and an RBI. Morgan Levine was credited with the win. She pitched the first five innings and allowed one run on four hits with five strikeouts and two walks. Cory Urkuski came in as a reliever for two innings. She allowed one run on three hits and had one walk.

MEN'S TENNIS TEAM MOVES TO 6-3: The York College men's tennis team snapped a two-game losing streak with a 5-4 non-conference win over Malone University on Wednesday morning in Hilton Head, S.C. The Spartans improved to 6-3, while the Pioneers fell to 4-6. Matt Rosenkrantz and Jake Greenstein won the No. 2 doubles match for the Spartans. York got singles wins from Nathaniel Hoskins (No. 3), Rosenkrantz (No. 4), Daniel Erk (No. 5) and Mario Herrera (No. 6).

WOMEN'S LACROSSE TEAM ROLLS: The York College women's lacrosse team rolled to a 16-2 victory over Alvernia on Tuesday in Orlando, Fla. The Spartans are now 2-1 on the season and were ranked No. 11 in the latest NCAA Division III poll by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association. No other details on the game were available.

MEN'S LACROSSE MATCH POSTPONED: The York College men's lacrosse match at Haverford, set for 7 p.m. Wednesday, was postponed because of the winter weather. It's been reset for 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Haverford.
