Susquehannock High School graduate Jesse Derksen, a senior goalkeeper for the York College men's soccer team, has been named the Spartan Athlete of the Week for the week ending Sept. 30, 2012.
Derksen helped the Spartans to a 2-1 record for the week. He was also named the Capital Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending Sept. 23.
Derksen played a total of 281 minutes, 28 seconds in the past three games while allowing only two goals and making 13 saves. The Spartans faced two ranked teams this past week in Messiah and Salisbury. The Spartans beat Neumann this past Monday, 3-0. At Messiah, Derksen made some fine saves to keep the Spartans in the game against a top-ranked powerhouse, but was not able to hold off the Falcons in double overtime and lost 1-0. Thanks to a solid save on a penalty shot by Derksen in overtime against Salisbury, the Spartans were able to beat their CAC rival 2-1 in a thriller on Saturday.
