The York College men's soccer team lost a 1-0 non-conference heartbreaker in overtime Wednesday night at Messiah in Grantham.
With the loss the Spartans drop to 7-2-1 overall while the Falcons improve to 8-0-1.
The Spartans held the advantage in the first half. York's Antonio Bua ripped a shot from outside the box that went just wide of the cage only 12:26 into the game. Right before halftime, Aaron Beale had a solid header that slid just past the far post. Chris Weaver was able to get another huge shot off but it was deflected at the last second.
Both teams put shots on goal in the second half but neither were succesful. The Falcons got York keeper Jesse Derksen (Susquehannock) out of position in overtime and Joshua Wood scored his first goal of the season with the game-winner for Messiah.
The Falcons held a 24-13 advantage in shots and a slim 7-5 advantage in corner kicks.
Derksen finished the game with four saves while Falcons' goalie Brandon West had six stops.
The Spartans return to action Saturday when they play host to Capital Athletic Conference rival Salisbury at 2 p.m.
