The York College women's lacrosse team was selected to participate in the NCAA Division III Tournament on Sunday night.
It's the first NCAA appearance in the eight-year history of York's varsity program. The Spartans, who are ranked 10th in NCAA Division III, will head to Montclair State (N.J.) on Wednesday to open up the tournament. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
York did not face Montclair this year, but the Spartans defeated the Red Hawks 13-9 last April 5 in Montclair. The Spartans are 2-0 all-time against Montclair. The Red Hawks, who aren't ranked in the NCAA Division III top 20, head into the tournament with a 13-5 mark. Montclair State earned its way into the field by winning the Skyline Conference championship. York earned an at-large berth.
The winner of the York-Montclair contest will advance to the second round on Saturday, May 12, against the winner of the Middlebury/Norwich contest.
