Mobile classroom Blake is shaped like a space shuttle
A mobile classroom shaped like a space ship traveled through York County on Interstate 83 Friday morning, hauled by a Mack truck. The shuttle, which began its journey in the Lehigh Valley, is destined for Washington, D.C., where it will be showcased in a Memorial Day parade on Monday. (Submitted)
Commuters traveling on Interstate 83 Friday morning may have spaced out for a moment when they saw an oversized load sharing the road. A 77-foot-long mock space shuttle was being transported from the Lehigh Valley area down to Washington, D.C.

The 20-year-old shuttle, named Blake, is a quarter-scale replica of the NASA space shuttle Challenger, and uses an old bus as the frame. It's the creation of Mack Truck company and Parkland School District, which has a teacher with ties to NASA. The shuttle serves as a mobile classroom, teaching students around the country about all things NASA, with lab equipment, flight simulator and more, according to Mack.

The Blake was being hauled down the interstate by a Mack Pinnacle truck, which is being showcased by the American Trucking Associations' "Share the Road" highway safety program.

The shuttle will be used in a Memorial Day parade on Monday in Washington, said Eric Reler, a spokesman for the association.
