Budding thespians can spend their summer building skills with DreamWrights Youth and Family Theatre, who will be holding 35 summer camps from June through Aug. for children and teens ages 3 to 18.
"The children who attend our summer camps receive hands-on theater experience that allows them to learn about the theater, while expressing themselves and having fun," Ann Davis, executive director of DreamWrights, said in a news release.
Range of themes: The camps include a wide range of themes that cover basic theater skills, such as on-stage performance, to specialized skills, such as makeup and stage combat. Story time and craft-themed adventures will also be held, and are designed to inspire young creativity.
"We have something for everyone," Davis said. "Whether you're interested in introducing your child to theater for the first time, or looking to give your experienced theater lover something to do over the summer, DreamWrights has the class for you."
The camps are led by a team of educators with a variety of classroom and practical theater experience. The instructors are matched to camps that best meet their talents and experience in the field, according to the release.
Register: Registration is required for all summer camps. Each camp's registration deadline will vary based on the start date of the camp. The cost for each camp ranges from $90-$410, with most camps between $114-$227.
Some of the camps that DreamWrights will offer include: Creativity Camps - Oceans, for ages 5 to 7, 1 to 4 p.m. June 23 - 27; Barnyard Moosical, for ages 5 to 7, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 4 - 8; Headed for Broadway, for ages 6 to 10, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 14 - 18; Sneaky Pete & the Wolf, for ages 8 to 10, 1 to 4 p.m. July 28 - Aug. 1; and Creativity Camps - Drawing and Painting, for ages 10 to 18, 1 to 4 p.m. July 14 - 18.
"Theatre has a way of developing a child's self-esteem and gives them the opportunity to express themselves in a safe and supportive environment," Davis said. "We're focused on providing that opportunity all summer long."
