It's a fantasy many people can relate to - wanting to escape. Most, however, don't dream of doing it inside the flesh of a succulent stone fruit.

Fantasy: Yet, that's exactly what happens to young James in the Roald Dahl classic, "James & The Giant Peach," opening on stage at the York Little Theatre. The children's show follows the journey of James as he is transported into an unlikely world inside a humongous peach. Along the way he meets a variety of humorous characters, including the wise old green grasshopper, the pessimistic earthworm, and James' mean Aunt Spiker and cruel Aunt Sponge.

Steampunk element: The show will be performed by both adults and children, and is directed by Paige Hoke with set design by Ray Olewiler. The studio setting will create an entirely new experience, artistic director Rene Staub said in a release, as the actors perform on the same level as the audience, immersing them in the story. The costumes and props will have a Steampunk - a recent subgenre of science fiction and fantasy - feel, with Victorian-era overtones.

See the show: The show will open at 7 p.m. Friday, with additional performances scheduled at 7 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday. Performances are also scheduled for May 23-25. Friday and Saturday performances are at 7 p.m.; Sunday's performance will be at 3 p.m.

Tickets purchased prior to opening night will receive a $2 discount. Adult and senior tickets are $17; student tickets are $12. They can be purchased online, by phone or at the door one hour before each performance, if available.
