"A Christmas Carol, A Ghost Story of Christmas" opens at the York Little Theatre, 27 S. Belmont St., York, at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6. This new theatrical and spirited version of Charles Dickens' classic tale will run Dec. 6-8 and 12-15. York City will host its annual Light Up Night from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6, at Continental Square in downtown York. This year's celebration will feature children's activities, live musical and dance entertainment, a tree lighting ceremony, and more. Immediately following the tree lighting, Mayor Bracey will read "'Twas the Night Before Christmas." Santa Claus will make an appearance and be available for photos in Martin Library, 159 E. Market St., York. All activities are free and open to the public. Light Up Night is held during First Friday events, so many downtown merchants will offer extended hours and promotions. The York Symphony Chorus and Chamber Singers with York Symphony Chamber Ensemble will present "A Singing Christmas Card," a program of choral musica for the holiday season, at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8, at First Presbyterian Church, 225 E. The Holiday Home Tour to benefit the Mason-Dixon Public Library and Stewartstown Historical Society will be held from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7. Six home tour sites are available and some will offer shopping opportunities. The Stewartstown United Methodist Church, 26 S. York College's music division will perform their most popular concert of the year, the annual Holiday Festival Concert, at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8, in the Waldner Performing Arts Center, 441 Country Club Road, York. This event is free and open to the public.

The York County Department of Parks and Recreation will present "Animals in Winter" from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8, at the Nature Center at Nixon County Park, 5922 Nixon Road, Springfield Township. There is no fee for the program and registration is not required. Information: 717-428-1961.

Delta Area Community Senior Center will hold its 11th annual Christmas Craft Fair from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, in the Peach Bottom Recreation Building, 5 Pendyrus St., Delta. More than 40 tables filled with hand-crafted items will be available. The day will begin with an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast from 8 to 10 a.m., and lunch will be available from 10:30 a.m. until sold out. All proceeds to benefit programming at the center. Students from York College's music division, along with the York College Prep Community Music School, will present a recital of Spanish music at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10, in the DeMeester Recital Hall located in the Evelyn and Earl Wolf Hall. This event is free and open to the public.

The York Audubon Society will present a "View from our Kayaks" by Karen Lippy and Deb Kline at 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 9 at the Lutheran Memorial Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1907 Hollywood Drive, York. Through photography, Lippy and Kline will present a water-level journey as they explore the birds and ecology of Codorus State Park and other locations over the seasons.  This program is free and open to the public. The Irish Tenors bring their Premier Irish Holiday Celebration Tour to the Strand-Capitol Performing Arts Center, 50 N. Geroge St., York, at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8. Weekend Sports

York-Adams League basketball teams begin their 2013-2014 seasons on Friday and Saturday with tournament action throughout the region. In York County, Central York, York Suburban, Hanover, Northeastern and York High will play host to boys' tournaments, while Spring Grove and Red Lion will play host to girls' tournaments.

The Dover Swimming Invitational is set for 9 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 7. Among the teams scheduled to compete are West York, Susquehannock, New Oxford, Spring Grove and the host school.
