The York Weekend Best of December 2013 entertainment calendar highlights fun events in York County throughout the month.

Toy show

Over 850 tables of dealers from several states will be at the 32nd Annual Greater York Toy Extravaganza from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 1, in Memorial Hall at the York Expo Center, 334 Carlisle Ave., West Manchester Township. A Dickens classic

"A Christmas Carol" opens at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6, on York Little Theatre's main stage, 27 S. Belmont St., Spring Garden Township. This new theatrical version of Charles Dickens' classic tale features a swirling, dancing chorus of ghosts that weave through an uplifting holiday story of redemption, magic and hope. The show runs from Dec. 6-8 and Dec. 12-15. Sunday performances are at 3 p.m. and all other performances are at 7:30 p.m. Tickets: $12-25. Information: 854-5715 or www.ylt.org.

It's a 'Miracle'

DreamWrights Youth and Family Theatre, 100 Carlisle Ave., York, will bring the beloved holiday classic "Miracle on 34th Street" to life for 12 performances from Dec. 6-21. In this special production, nearly all cast and crew members appear in front of the audience as part of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, which will march straight through the audience, complete with clowns, Rockettes, Mother Goose and her nursery rhyme friends and Santa and his eight Reindeer. Show times are at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 6-7, 13-14 and 20-21; 2:30 p.m. Dec. 7-8, 14-15 and 21-22; and a special playlet and child-friendly breakfast at 9 a.m. Dec. 7, 14 and 21. Tickets: $8-$15.

Light Up Night

Live entertainment including holiday music, carols and dance performances will highlight Light Up Night from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6, in Continental Square. Mayor Bracey will light the Christmas tree, craft activities will be available, there will be a reading of "'Twas the Night Before Christmas," and of course the arrival of Santa Claus. Holiday homes

The Holiday Home Tour to benefit the Mason-Dixon Public Library and Stewartstown Historical Society will be held from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7. Six home tour sites are available and some will offer shopping opportunities. Tickets: $15-$20. Information: 717-993-2404.

Irish holiday

The Irish Tenors bring their Premier Irish Holiday Celebration Tour to the Strand-Capitol Performing Arts Center, 50 N. George St., York, at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8. Finbar Wright, Anthony Kearns and Ronan Tynan have been touring together as The Irish Tenors since 1998. Their performance will include Christmas classics featured on their legendary holiday tour. 'Singing Christmas Card'

The York Symphony Orchestra Chorus will perform a family holiday concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8 at the First Presbyterian Church, 225 E. Market St., York. Acoustic performance

Holiday tradition

Midstate Ballet presents "The Nutcracker," Tchaikovsky's beloved masterpiece and a spectacular annual holiday tradition for families, at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14 and 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 15 at the Strand-Capitol Peforming Arts Center, 50 N. Brass ensemble

With a vast repertoire from Baroque masters to marches, holiday favorites to Dixieland, and jazz to Broadway, brass musicians Canadian Brass are set to take the stage at the Strand-Capitol Performing Arts Center, 50 N. Holiday tribute

'A Simpler Christmas'

Marshmallow hike

Take a break from the holiday feast and come out for a crisp, mid-holiday "Marshmallow Hike" from 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 26, at Rocky Ridge County Park, Deininger Road, Springettsbury Township. Hikes will originate from Pheasant pavilion in the Hidden Laurel Picnic Area. Program will be presented again from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 28. New Year's Eve

Ring in the new year at New Year's Revolution 2014 from 6 p.m. to 12:15 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 31, in York City's Continental Square. Musical entertainment will be provided by RPM, followed by the Sabrina Duke Band. A special children's countdown will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. At midnight, watch the white rose drop, followed by a fireworks display. All activities are free and open to the public.
