Downtown York's Strand-Capitol Performing Arts Center is no stranger to variety.
With shows from jazzy Diana Krall to comedy duo Cheech & Chong coming up, the theater has added two more acts to its eclectic lineup.
The Strand will bring in four-time Grammy-winner Pat Benatar on Tuesday, Nov. 5, at 7:30 p.m. The rock star is known for hits such as "Love is a Battlefield," "Hit Me with Your Best Shot" and "Heartbreaker." She will perform with husband and guitarist Neil Giraldo.
The Strand also announced it is bringing up-and-coming experimental band Man Man to its stage. The Philadelphia-based rock group will perform on Friday, Oct. 25, at 8 p.m.
The theater tries to have something for everybody, said Ken Wesler, Strand president and CEO.
"The whole driver for us is we want to be a place where every market, every audience can see something," he said.
'Always hungry': It's clear that with a big name like Benatar's, people will be interested. But for a band like Man Man, which has been around for 10 years but is still getting off the ground, this stage is a good opportunity to get its sound out there, said frontman Ryan Kattner.
"It feels like we're still trying to prove ourselves," he said. "The good thing about a band like Man Man is that we're always hungry. We just want more people to know who we are."
The band - which purposefully has a "terrible" name - experiments with different sounds and will drop a new album on Sept. 10. Although the group tried to pick the most basic name possible, its name represents the facets of being a man: being weak, being strong and falling in and out of love, Kattner said.
Speaking from a couch on the West Coast, the pianist, singer and songwriter said he's itching to get on the road.
"When I'm not touring, I kind of fall apart," Kattner said. "I'm just really excited about getting our record out into the world. I just hope people listen to it and give it a chance.
The band performed at the Strand in 2011 and had fun, he said. But Kattner's looking forward toward rocking out this time around.
"That show's toward the end of our tour, which means we're gonna be on fire," he said.
