Yorkers can ease into Valentine's Day celebrations nice and slow with a First Friday concert at the Valencia Ballroom.

R&B hitmaker Carl Thomas, who launched out of the gate a little over a decade ago with the No. 1 single “I Wish,” will perform Friday, Feb. 1, in a show billed as “An Intimate Affair.”

Local organizer Kyle Moore of Moore Than Average Entertainment remembers loving “Summer Rain” and “Emotional” back in the day.

“I decided on Carl Thomas because I felt like the city needed a concert with more of the music I grew up on, the R&B music,” he says. “Around Valentine's Day, people go out to dinner, but I wanted to give them the opportunity to go out to a concert with people they love.”

Thomas' sensual stylings seemed a perfect fit for the holiday. His latest album, “Conquer,” came out a little over a year ago.

“He has a very nice, smooth R&B sound,” Moore says.

The show: The doors at the Valencia, 142 N. George St., will open at 8 p.m., with the music starting at 9 p.m. Opening for Thomas will be a number of local acts, including Primp's Sha' Summerlin as emcee and performances by Chantz Kacey, Tim Cox and others.

Tickets are $25 for general admission and $50 for VIP access. An after-party with Thomas will follow at the Lux Lounge, 1327 N. Duke St. After-party tickets are $15 general admission or $5 for VIP concert ticket-holders.
