The first announced guest for the 2018 York Area Sports Night program is a former Penn State great with a hall-of-fame pedigree.
Dave Robinson excelled at end, both offensively and defensively, while at Penn State from 1960-1962. He played under head coach Rip Engle. The Nittany Lions had a 24-8 record in those three years, won two Lambert Trophies as the best team in the East and was in the Liberty Bowl once and the Gator Bowl twice. Robinsion was an All-American in 1962.
In 1962 the Newark Athletic Club named Robinson the College Player of the Year and the Philadelphia Sports Writers Association named him the College Lineman of the Year.
He was elected into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1997.
Robinson was then drafted in the first round of the 1963 NFL draft by the Green Bay Packers. For the next 10 seasons in Green Bay, he excelled at linebacker for one of the most dominant dynasties in NFL history.
Overall, he played 12 NFL seasons, including two final years with the Washington Redskins in 1973-74. In all, he intercepted 27 passes.
He was named All-NFL three straight years from 1967-69 and voted to three Pro Bowls. In addition, he was named second-team All-Pro in 1968 and 1969 and was voted All-Western Conference three times, 1966-68.
The 6-foot, 3-inch, 245-pounder started at left outside linebacker in three NFL championship victories and two Super Bowl wins.
Robinson played in a total of 155 regular-season games during his NFL career and was voted to the NFL’s All-Decade Team of the 1960s.
He was selected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2013.
The 53rd annual York Area Sports Night is set for Thursday, Feb. 8, 2018, at the Heritage Hills Golf Resort and Conference Center.
The public celebrity reception is from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. Tickets are $80 in advance and $100 at the door, if available.
From 6:15 p.m. until 7:45 p.m., there will be a an exclusive celebrity dinner with a live auction for celebrities, hosts, sponsors and guests.
