"Jekyll and Hyde" will be the next show to come from The Belmont Theater, and Executive Director Lyn Bergdoll is very excited for it to open.
The musical will open on Friday and run for two weekends total. Rene Staub, the theater's artistic director, is directing the play and has been working with Rick Anderson, musical director, who coached the vocals and the orchestra, according to Bergdoll.
The musical is based on the Robert Louis Stevenson book "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde," and it tells the story of two men, a passionate, romantic doctor and a terrifying madman, and the two women who fall in love with them without realizing they are the same man. The songs include "Someone Like You" and "A New Life."
The show's score was nominated for a Grammy, and the 1997 Broadway production was nominated for a Tony. One of the songs, "This Is the Moment," has been performed at the Olympics, the World Series, the Super Bowl and the inauguration of President George W. Bush.
Anderson will be involved with the show alongside his entire family. Rick Anderson's wife, Marjorie Anderson, will perform on the keyboard as part of the show's orchestra. One son, Steve Anderson, is playing in the orchestra as well, on the trumpet, and their other son, Mike Anderson, is a lead in the show.
Mike Anderson has appeared in other shows at The Belmont Theater. He played the King in "The King and I" last May, and before that he was the lead in "Sweeney Todd." In "Jekyll and Hyde," Mike Anderson will play John Utterson, Jekyll's attorney.
"The Belmont Theater is extremely fortunate to have this family play such key roles in this production," Bergdoll said in an email. "The professionalism of the show will be incredible and reflect their expertise."

Tickets are available online and are $27 for adults, $25 for seniors ages 62 and up and $15 for youth ages 18 and under; $1 of each ticket will be designated to the theater's building preservation fund, according to the website.
