After an impressive showing at the District 3 Cross Country Meet last year, York-Adams runners are poised to deliver a repeat in 2013.
This year's district meet is set for Wednesday at the Parkview course in Hershey. The first of six races will go off at noon.
Brady Wilt of Biglerville and Kate Mowrey of Delone Catholic will return after winning district titles in 2012 -- Wilt in Boys' Class A and Mowrey in Girls' Class A.
The Delone Catholic girls also won team gold last season, and four runners who figured in the Squirettes' scoring -- Mowrey, Andrea Resciniti, Alyssa Alberghini and Jenna Salter -- are back this year.
The local running contingent will also include the winners of this year's York-Adams League runs -- Patrick Reilly of Dallastown, a senior, and Olivia Gettle of York Suburban, a sophomore.
Reilly, a two-time York-Adams champion, finished second in last season's District 3-AAA meet, and the runner who finished ahead of him, Alec Kunzweiler of Cumberland Valley, was a senior last year. Reilly will attempt to follow in the footsteps of former Wildcats star Chuck Lockwood, who won the 2009 District 3-AAA run.
Gettle, meanwhile, placed third in the 2012 District 3-AA girls' race.
She and her teammates are enjoying an outstanding season, and their eyes will be on the top team prize. The Trojans took second last year, and Gettle, Emma Leik, Lauren Shrader, Danielle Cardone, Kimberly Hall and Rachelle Walker are all back from that team. The Suburban girls' teams previously captured district titles in 2004 and 2007.
The Suburban boys also placed second last year. Brad Clark, Zach Lofties and Adam Barley, members of this year's team, also represented the Trojans in 2012.
Kayla White of Kennard-Dale, sixth in Class AA last year, will look to move up this year. So will two other top-10 finishers in 2012 -- Ben Linne of Northeastern (10th in Boys' AA) and Amanda Falvey of York Catholic (10th in Girls' A).
Rachel Banchiere of Susquehannock, Emily Clinton of New Oxford, Emma Harrelson of York Tech, Emily Fourhman of Susquehannock, Rachel Crane of New Oxford and Bethany Weaver of West York will pursue district medals after placing among the top 10 at the York-Adams All-League Run. Same goes for top-10 York-Adams finishers on the guys' side -- Aaron Gebhart of New Oxford, J.D. Groff of Central York, Jacob Thomas of Susquehannock, Taylor Gardner of Spring Grove, Ben Schott of South Western and Alex Miller of Red Lion.
Of course, the ultimate for a local high school runner is to win a district medal and qualify for the upcoming state meet. The state competition is set for Saturday, Nov. 2, also at the Parkview course.
