The nationally ranked York College men's and women's lacrosse teams are both headed to the big dance. The teams were selected as at-large bids to compete in the NCAA Division III tournaments Sunday night. Thirty teams are selected in the men's tournament, while 36 teams on the women's side compete in the national tourney.
It marks the first-ever appearance in the national tournament for the men's program and the third straight appearance for the women's team. Both squads are coming off losses at Salisbury in the Capital Athletic Conference championship games this past Saturday.
The women's team (14-4), currently ranked No. 13 in the latest NCAA D-III poll, will host St. John Fisher (N.Y.) College (15-4) this Saturday. The winner will move on to face the winner of Amherst (15-2) and Bridgewater State (14-5). A year ago, the Spartan women earned the program's first NCAA tournament win.
The Spartan men (15-4), ranked No. 12 in the latest D-III poll, will host Susquehanna University (11-7) on Wednesday. The winner will move on to face Salisbury (18-1) in the next round. Salisbury, the No. 2 ranked team in the country, is one of two teams to have received first-round byes in the tournament.
The start times for both first-round York College games has yet to be announced.
