Dave Kareis averaged 257 for six games on Sunday at Colony Park Lanes North to earn the top qualifying spot in the Bud Light York County Match Play Bowling Championship.
Kareis rolled games of 276, 299, 224, 227, 238 and 279 to move from fourth to first. He takes a 45-pin lead into the first round of match play Saturday at Hanover Bowling Centre. Kareis totaled 3,011 pins, while Adam Baer, a three-time champion, finished with 2,966. Jerred Poff, the 2013 champ, owns third place with 2,951 pins.
The top 12 bowlers from a field of 53 advanced to match play. Bowlers carry over any pins above 2,400 in qualifying to match play. The tournament concludes with six games of match play on Sunday at East Lincoln Lanes.
