York College women's basketball player Brittany Hicks has been named the Spartan Athlete of the Week for the week ending Sunday, Jan. 26.
The York Catholic High School graduate led the nationally ranked Spartans to a pair of wins for the week. In the Wednesday win over Frostburg State, Hicks played in just 20 minutes and poured in 14 points, grabbed nine rebounds, dished out three assists and had a steal. Hicks was 6-for-9 from the floor and 2-for-3 from the free throw line.
In the come-from-behind victory over Mary Washington, the senior All-American poured in a game-high 22 points with 15 rebounds in her ninth double-double of the year. Hicks was 7-for-14 from the floor including a career-high 3-for-3 from 3-point range. She also went 5-for-6 from the free throw line in the unbeaten Spartans' 17th victory of the year.
For the week, the 5-foot, 10-inch Hicks averaged 18 points and 12 rebounds per game. She shot 56.5 percent from the floor and 77.8 percent (7-for-9) from the free throw line.
For the season, Hicks is averaging 15.1 points and 10.5 rebounds per game. She leads the team in both categories.
It is the second time this year that Hicks has earned the institutional honor. She was also named the Dec. 9 Athlete of the Week.
