Rapper DMX is scheduled to perform in York County Saturday night.

DMX, the rowdy performer who earned hip-hop celebrity status in the late 1990s, will perform for the first time in York this weekend.

The show is scheduled for 8 p.m. Saturday at the Belmont Banquet and Entertainment Venue, 36 W. 11th Ave.

DMX was originally scheduled to perform in Lancaster. But, his promoter needed to change the location at the last minute, said Aaron Will, co-owner of the Belmont and owner of Smash Radio, which is hosting the concert.

"He called us and we bailed him out," Will said. "We're excited. It's a big deal for us."

According to an article published in the Intelligencer Journal/Lancaster New Era newspaper, a promoter intended to hold the show at the Lancaster County Convention Center on Saturday.

But, according to that article, there's a dispute between Lancaster Mayor Rick Gray and promoter Larry Bently, who told the newspaper Gray intervened to have the convention center cancel the concert because of security concerns. According to the newspaper article, Gray denied doing so.

As for the show in York, Will said he does not have any security concerns. The Belmont will be staffed, as it always is, with a professional security team, he said.

"It's going to be fine," he said. "DMX is not bringing that vibe. He's a¥'90s hip-hop artist. None of his music was ever violent. He'll cry on stage about his grandma. He'll break down on his knees and start praying to God. We're not afraid of that."

Will said he's expecting a racially and generationally mixed crowd at Saturday's show.

The Belmont opened in early September, replacing Club XS, which closed after several years of legal troubles with the Liquor Control Board.

Tickets for the DMX show, which can be purchased at www.loudnationwildlife.com, are $25 in advance and $45 at the door, according to a news release from Smash Radio.

Doors open at 6 p.m. Concertgoers must be 21 or older.
