The York College women's lacrosse team is 12 days away from opening its 2013 season.
The Spartans will open that season as the ninth-ranked team in NCAA Division III, according to the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaching Association.
The IWLCA recently released its preseason poll.
York head coach Jen Muston guided the Spartans to a school-record 14 wins in 2012. Muston was named the Capital Athletic Conference Coach of the Year for the second straight year and was also selected as the IWLCA Metro Region Coach of the Year. Last season, Muston led the Spartans to their first NCAA Division III Tournament appearance and their first CAC championship game appearance.
Muston welcomes back seven All-CAC selections and four All-Metro Region selections. Senior Kim Wayson earned York's first IWLCA All-America accolades last season, when she was a second-team pick.
"We are certainly excited about being recognized as one of the top teams in the country but we also understand that we still need to work hard to push for the top," Muston said. "We have a very experienced team and they are ready to get on the field and start playing games."
Earlier in the offseason, the Spartans were ranked No. 10 in Division III according to Lacrosse Magazine.
The Spartans open the campaign on Saturday, Feb. 23, at Goucher College. York opens its home campaign on March 13 vs. Catholic University. Five of York's 15 regular-season games will come against teams ranked in the preseason NCAA Division III Top 25.
