Central York High School graduate James English helped the No. 2 ranked Penn State wrestling team defeat West Virginia, 44-3, on Sunday.

English (149 pounds), a fifth-year senior, picked up an 8-0 major decision over the Mountaineers' Brutus Scheffel to improve his overall mark to 2-0. Wrestling in place of injured Andrew Alton on Friday in Penn State's season-opener against Lehigh, English scored a 5-2 decision over No. 18 Shane Welsh to aid in the Nittany Lions' 29-6 victory.

New Oxford grad Jordan Conaway (133) also competed Friday against Lehigh. The redshirt freshman picked up his first career victory with a come-from-behind 3-2 decision over freshman Laike Gardner, who is a Biglerville grad.

The two-time defending NCAA Division I national champions, Penn State entered the year at No. 2 in the preseason coaches' poll. However, the Nittany Lions sit atop the rankings on the intermatwrestle.com poll.
