Three York College athletes have earned weekly honors from the Capital Athletic Conference.

Senior outfielder Steve Tretter and freshman pitcher Dan Gurganus were selected as the CAC Baseball Athletes of the Week.

Tretter was named the Baseball Player of the Week after batting 12-for-21 (.571) with a walk, four doubles, a homer, seven runs scored, five stolen bases and four RBIs. He helped the Spartans win four of five games during last week.

Gurganus was named the Baseball Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season after throwing a five-hit shutout against Mary Washington. Gurganus walked three and fanned two in the seven-inning, complete-game performance.

Senior goalie Tyler Powell was named the CAC Men's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week after making saves on 16 of the 20 shots he faced in two wins last week. He also recorded 11 ground balls and two caused turnovers.

OTHER YORK COLLEGE NOTES

SPARTANS THIRD AT GOLF TOURNAMENT: The York College golf team finished third in the nine-team Glenmaura National Collegiate Invitational in Moosic. The host school, Scranton, defended its title with a two-day total of 35-over-par 603. McDaniel was second at 611, followed by York at 614. Kevin Long was York's top scorer with a 77 and a 75 for a 10-over 152 total, which tied him for seventh in the individual race. McDaniel's James Lillie was the top individual scorer at 75-71--146. York's other scorers were: Dave Boslough (81-72--153, tied for 10th), Andrew Schmehl (82-72--154, tied for 14th), Adam Dupler (86-75--161, tied for 27th) and Travis Oot (80-84--164, tied for 31st).

SPARTANS ROLL IN MEN'S TENNIS: The York College men's tennis team improved to 10-7 overall with 9-0 non-league victory over visiting Penn State Berks on Monday. Berks fell to 6-8. Philip Myers and James Villari won at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively, and also teamed to win No. 1 doubles. Matthew Rosenkrantz, Daniel Erk, Mario Herrera and George Sosa also grabbed singles wins for York.
