The York College men's lacrosse team defeated Hood 11-5 Wednesday afternoon in a Capital Athletic Conference game at York's Kinsley Field.
The Spartans improved to 7-5 overall and 3-3 in the CAC, while the Blazers fell to 3-11 and 1-5.
Tyler Hutson led York with a career-high five goals and three assists. The freshman has now posted a team-best 38 goals on the season. Justin Aita added a trio of goals for York, and Tyler Roy went 10-for-18 for in faceoffs. York's Hogan Ross caused a trio of turnovers. Goalkeeper Tyler Powell recorded his seventh win of the season courtesy of six saves over 45 minutes of work.

SPARTANS SWEEP SOFTBALL DOUBLEHEAD ER: The York College softball team picked up a Capital Athletic Conference sweep over Stevenson University on Wednesday in York, 8-1 and 7-3.
Brittany Therres pitched a pair of complete games to earn both victories. In 14 innings, she allowed just two earned runs, eight hits and three walks. She fanned eight.
In the opener Hannah Hugel had three hits for York, while Brittany Schlorff, Sara Thacker and Venessa Mendez added two hits apiece. York's Jena Ruby tripled and had three RBIs.
In the second game, Hugel had four hits, while Ruby, Schlorff, Erin O'Leary and Cara Rubinaccio added two hits each. O'Leary also had two RBIs.
York is now 10-16 overall and 6-4 in the CAC. Stevenson dropped to 12-20 and 2-8.
YORK GOLFERS FIFTH AT GETTYSBURG INVITA TIONAL: The York College golf team finished fifth at the eight-team Gettysburg College Spring Invitational on Wednesday at the Bridges Golf Club in Abbottstown.
The Spartans had a team score of 334. Gettysburg won the title at 310. Messiah's Matt Burkhart won the individual title with an even-par 72.
York was paced by the trio of Kevin Long, Travis Oot and Andrew Schmehl, who each shot 11-over-par 83s, good for a tie for 18th in the 48-player field. Senior Adam Burkhart was the fourth Spartan scorer at 85.
