UPDATE: The Region III seat vacated by Margaret Ibex covers Dallastown, Jacobus, and Loganville boroughs and Springfield Township. She has a year left on her term. The board wants interested candidates age 18 and older from one of those municipalities to submit an application between 8:30 a.m. Oct. 22 and 4:30 p.m. Oct. 26 to the board secretary at the administration building, 700 New School Lane in Dallastown. A resume and letter of interest are needed. Public interviews will be Nov. 1 and Nov. 8.

Previously:

Margaret Ibex, a Dallastown Area School Board member since 2009, has resigned for health reasons.

Ibex had a statement read by superintendent Ronald Dyer at Thursday's meeting announcing it would be her final meeting after she decided her back pain prevented her from going on.

Ibex, who did not elaborate on her health, will be replaced through a candidate interview process. The board will soon be announcing details on how interested persons can submit an application.

"It has been a rough year with pain ... and I have to do what I have to do," Ibex later told the board as she thanked them.

Ibex was known for standing up against tax or budget increases, voting as part of the minority that opposed final budgets.

Dyer said Ibex, a retired administrative secretary, was also known for regularly visiting schools and volunteering.

"She has contributed to the excellence of this school district," Dyer said.

Board president Kenneth "Butch" Potter added Ibex gave it her best to work through the pain, and while sad to see her go, he and the board are hoping it gives her a chance to mend

"She's gone above and beyond," Potter said. Ibex had filled the seat previously held by David Inkrote. She has a year left on her term. In previous cases, the board has held two rounds of interviews before selecting a replacement board member.

Dallastown also announced Thursday's scheduled board meeting will now be executive session and not open to the public. But the public can attend a town meeting Nov. 7 at 7 p.m. at the intermediate school auditorium.
