Harry Colon says it's a no-brainer.

He has the resources and connections to help families meet their get back-to-school needs, so why not help, he reasons.

"I do it from the heart. My father taught me to always help out those in need," Colon said.

For the third year, Colon has organized a giveaway event full of backpacks, office supplies and many other school-related goodies.

"Da Underground and Friends" event helped out several hundred families in York City last year, he said. This year's event is 2-6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 19, at Lots of Love Learning Center, 800 E. King St.

Colon's son is the owner of Da Underground music store in York City.

Office Max, Sneaker Villa, the Marquette Group and Powerhouse Graphix are among the sponsors. Free haircuts will be available for children younger than 12.

Colon said he knows money is still tight for many families, and maybe getting something such as a free backpack will help a family afford another needed item.
