Red Lion is asking students to show those pearly whites.
The school district is holding the first of what officials hope will be an annual dental hygiene-focused day to benefit all students, said Mary Smith, supervisor of pupil personnel services .The "Fluoride Day," sponsored by the Red Lion Area Educational Foundation, was the idea of Kathy Hunger-Sanders, who serves as a dental hygienist for the district. The free program will be held all day Jan. 21 at the Junior High School.
Students will get a dental screening from certified dentists, plus brushing and flossing instruction. Fluoride varnish will be applied as well.
Red Lion officials said many students' families don't have dental insurance or can't afford a trip to the dentist, so providing a day for them to get it at school is critical.
The service is by appointment and is open to any Red Lion student from 8 a.m.-1:20 p.m. A permission slip is needed. For information and appointments, call 244-5550, ext. 302.
