The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary District 5NR Safe Boating Week campaign kicks off Saturday, May 26, with local Coast Guard Auxiliary units promoting recreational boating safety. The campaign is dedicated to helping boaters understand the need for boating education and vessel safety checks, as well as the importance of wearing life jackets while boating.
The public is invited to visit the local Coast Guard Auxiliary Safe Boating Booths for information and a display of safe boating equipment from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 26, at the following locations: Dicks Sporting Goods Store, 2925 Concord Road; Long Level Marina, Wrightsville; U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Base, 1964 Long Level Road, Wrightsville.
Vessel safety checks will be offered free to the boating public at the Coast Guard base. Boats passing the examination will be awarded the Vessel Safety Check decal to display on the boat.
For more information or to inquire about vessel safety checks, call Jeff Kuhn at 717-855-3071.
