The Friendship Shalom Community of York City will host a Cost of Poverty Experience, 6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 3, at the Helen Thackston Charter School, 625 E. Philadelphia St.
COPE is a poverty simulation where participants live a month in poverty in one hour. The event gives hands-on experience plus a chance to debrief and evaluate the evening.
Admission is free, but participants are asked to donate footwear (any size and condition) to support the organization's Shoes for Shalom fundraiser. Members of the community, businesses and faith groups are also asked to drop off footwear of all kinds, sizes and conditions from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Mondays-Thurdays through April 3 at Asbury United Methodist Church, 340 E. Market St. Proceeds from the donated shoes will help fund programs offered by FSC.
