Nine York-Adams League teams have qualified for the District 3 Softball Tournament, which is set to start Tuesday afternoon.
That includes four teams in the 16-team Class AAAA field, led by York-Adams Tournament champion Central York (20-2), which earned the No. 3 seed. The Panthers will take on No. 14 seed Warwick (12-8) in a first-round game at York's Memorial Park at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
In another AAAA battle at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at Memorial Park, No. 8 seed Red Lion (12-6) will battle No. 9 seed Lower Dauphin (15-6).
The other local teams in the AAAA bracket are No. 10 Dallastown (13-5) and No. 16 Spring Grove (13-8). The Wildcats will face No. 7 Solanco (13-5) at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at Millersville University, while the Rockets, the York-Adams Division II champion, will have the daunting task of taking on No. 1 seed Cumberland Valley (19-2) at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at Messiah College.
Dallastown fell in the District 3-AAAA title game a year ago, while Central York lost to Dallastown in a District 3-AAAA semifinal.
The 16-team AAA field will feature No. 8 seed Susquehannock (11-7), No. 11 seed Kennard-Dale (12-7) and No. 15 seed Dover (9-11). The Warriors will meet No. 9 seed Northern York (13-6) at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at Spring Grove. The York-Adams Division III champion Rams will battle No. 6 seed Shippensburg (14-6) at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at New Oxford. And the Eagles will take on No. 2 seed Donegal (18-3) at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Manheim Central. Twin Valley (21-1) is the No. 1 seed in AAA.
York-Adams Division II champion Delone Catholic (18-1) earned the best seed of any area team, grabbing the No. 2 spot in the 10-team Class AA field. The Squirettes received a first-round bye on Tuesday. On Thursday, May 23, the Squirettes will face the winner of Tuesday's game between No. 10 seed Littlestown (10-8) and No. 7 seed Pequea Valley (12-7). That game will take place at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at Elizabethtown. The No. 1 seed in AA is Brandywine Heights (20-1).
There are no York-Adams teams in the four-team Class A bracket. Upper Dauphin (11-9) is the No. 1 seed.
The seedings were based on a power-ranking point system.
