The York Suburban girls' soccer team came ready to play on Wednesday night.

There were several good reasons for that. One, it was the team's Senior Night. Two, the Trojans were playing for a championship. And three, rival West York was their opponent.

The pumped-up Trojans then turned it into a night to remember.

Goals from Suburban's Jordan Shoff and Mikala Kin over the first 20 minutes of the contest set the tone early.

The Trojan defense took care of the rest. Suburban utilized a suffocating defensive approach that limited West York to just two shots on goal all night.

As the final seconds ticked off the clock in their regular-season-ending 2-0 victory, the home team had another reason to celebrate.

The triumph allowed Coach Tom Shugars' team to claim a share of the York-Adams Division II title with the Bulldogs. Both teams finished at 8-1-1.

"We knew coming into this game that West York is a great team," senior co-captain Lexi Ketterman said. "We had to get it done."

Shugars gave credit to his seniors for making the night one that they can add to their list of favorite moments.

"They wanted to win this game and they were going to pull everyone else with them," he said. "They certainly sent that message that we were going to win this game. ... and they did."

Shoff opened the scoring in the 13th minute when she used a quick burst of speed to get past a West York defender. She dribbled inside the left side the box before launching a shot that went between the near post and Bulldog goalie Stevie Gross.

"That was awesome," Ketterman said. "When (Jordan) just breaks away, good things usually come off of it."

That early goal was just the thing that the home team needed to boost their confidence level. Becca Meyer felt that her team, which has tallied more than 10 shutouts already this year, understood the significance of that marker.

"I think after we got that first goal that we got the momentum that we needed to carry throughout the game," said Meyer, who's a co-captain along with Ketterman.

If getting an early 1-0 lead on the Bulldogs was big, increasing it was like a death sentence, especially against a defense as strong as Suburban's. Kin doubled the lead in the 20th minute. Ketterman fed the junior just inside the right corner of the box and Kin did the rest, blasting a laser past Gross.

West York coach Brett Maxwell gave credit to the Trojans for a great game plan.

"Tom and his girls did a great job," Maxwell said. "I just think that they had a better plan coming in then we did."

Shugars was happy with how his team came out of the gates and admitted that he was worried that the Senior Night festivities might be a distraction.

"From the start of the game, I think it was an incredibly high pace," he said. "We didn't let down too much after that. They played well."

The defense made that lead stand up against a talented offensive club. The Bulldogs feature reigning Division II Player of the Year Shyanne Kimbrough, along with Amanda Cheak, Bre Schlemmer and Olivia Manges, but were unable to sustain any offensive pressure.

The visitors, in fact, had more corner kicks (three) than shots on a goal (two). The space to work with the ball just was not there for the Bulldogs' gifted scorers.

"We tweaked the defense a little," Shugars said. "We changed how we marked and I thought that was pretty effective."

DALLASTOWN 1, RED LION 0: At Dallastown, Alaina Curry's unassisted first-half goal lifted the Wildcats to the victory. Dallastown, which had already clinched the York-Adams Division I title, improved to 10-0-1 in the division, while Red Lion fell to 8-4-0. Becca Austin had four saves to record the shutout and earn the victory. Courtney Trout made 11 saves in a losing cause.

DOVER 1, SUSQUE HANNOCK 0: At Dover, Brooke May's goal with 16 minutes remaining in the second half proved the difference. Eagles' goalies Tiff Logue and Robin Huntsberry, who were among the players honored on Senior Night, teamed for nine saves to earn the shutout. Cayla Stiffler recorded 12 saves for Susquehannock.

NORTHEASTERN 5, KENNARD-DALE 0: At Manchester, Logan Neiman led the Bobcats, scoring three goals and recording one assist. Malori Bloss-Senft and Sam Christine each scored one goal, while Payton Hauck picked up one assist. The Bobcats' defense held the visitors to one shot on goal.

CENTRAL 9, YORK HIGH 0: At Central, Brooke Heilman, Ashley Brown and Lyndsay Rathbun led the Panthers, scoring two goals apiece. Taylor Artman, Sam Sweeney and Brooklyn Smith each scored one goal. The Panthers' defense held the Bearcats to three shots on goal.
