HANOVER -- Michael Klahold and John Schmitt from Dallastown pulled a surprise on the opening day of the York-Adams League Boys' Doubles Tennis Tournament.

Klahold and Schmitt, who entered unseeded, upset Red Lion's Grant Williams and Dustin Innerst, the No. 4-seeded team, 6-7, 6-2, 6-4, to gain a spot in the semifinals. The Dallastown pair began their day by defeating Dover's Levi Peters and Max Strickler, 6-0, 6-0, in a round-of-16 match.

Klahold and Schmitt won't have to introduce themselves to their opponents in Wednesday's Class AAA semifinals. They'll be trading shots with their Dallastown teammates, the No. 1-seeded team of Adam Gante and Andy Murray.

The other semifinal will match two South Western teams: the No. 2-seeded duo of Mack Meyer and his brother, Quin, against the No. 3-seeded pair of Anthony Miserendino and Brandon Stremmel. Miserendino and Stremmel rallied to overcome Central York's Hunter Brown and Rajeev Dalal in the quarterfinals. The scores were 4-6, 6-4, 6-4.

Meanwhile in Class AA, the four seeded teams each won both of their matches to advance to Wednesday's semifinals.

The top-seeded team of Cole Herzing and Nate Long of Biglerville will take on Kaltrin Bullaj and Zach Hanson of Susquehannock (No. 3) and Michael Hogg and David Lee of York Suburban (No. 2) will face York Catholic's Niko Mucci and Patrick Albright (No. 4).

Herzing and Long were pushed in their first match by Hanover's Joel Garrett and Cullen Rosenbrien before coming out on top, 6-7 (6), 6-2, 6-3, and Bullaj and Hanson turned back the challenge of Delone Catholic's Kevin Shultis and Adam Fisher, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3.
