Red Lion recorded the best performance by a York-Adams League team in the girls' 400 relay at the prestigious Penn Relays on Thursday.
Molly Crawford, Angelica Gonzalez, Deja Henry and Cassidy Barshinger finished second in their heat with a time of 49.56 seconds. Piscataway (N.J.) won the heat in :49.37.
The Central York team of Megan Lundy, Kadie Surgenor, Jordan Nittinger and Khaddisha Arnold came home in a time of :50.19, and the York High quartet of Cheyanne Brown, Kelleanne Graham, Jastocia Sexton and Donella Nelson covered the distance in :50.55. The Bearcats were second in their heat to Pope John Paul XXIII of Sparta, N.J. (:49.93).
South Western's Justice King, Madison Suarez, Tamirra Roach and Amore Coleman put up a time of :53.00, and York Suburban's Tagen Lehr, Heather Ramp, Bethany Miller and Brianna Clark finished in :53.33.
In the girls' 1,600 relay, Central's Arnold, Nittinger, Surgenor and Lundy delivered the fastest time by a York-Adams team with a 4:08.05 effort. Dallastown (Tatiana Purnell, Sally Trout, Amari Johnson and Paige Barefoot) were right behind at 4:08.64, and York High (no runners listed) came in at 4:09.21.
The York Suburban team (Lily Corsaro, Lauren Shrader, Chelsea Frey and Lisa Drusedum) was timed in 4:12.55. Red Lion (Henry, Barshinger, Alaina Ross and Jessica Lewis) finished in 4:21.18, and South Western (King, Suarez, Coleman and Maddy Swanner) posted a time of 4:23.92.
The competition continues on Friday at the University of Pennsylvania's Franklin Field.
