A host of state-ranked boys' volleyball teams are set to compete in the 2012 Koller Classic this weekend at Central York High School.
The junior varsity division begins play at 4 p.m. Friday. The varsity division begins at 8:30 a.m. Saturday.
This year's varsity tournament features local powerhouses Northeastern and York Suburban. Both the Bobcats (No. 10) and the Trojans (No. 2) are currently ranked in the top 10 of the Pennsylvania Volleyball Coaches Association Class AA state poll.
Other state-ranked AA teams in the tournament include District 7 power Ambridge (No. 1), Bethlehem Catholic (No. 4) and Derry Area (No. 7).
The state-ranked AAA teams include Pittsburgh's North Allegheny (No. 1), Chambersburg (No. 4), Emmaus (No. 6), Parkland (No. 8) and Lancaster's Hempfield (No. 9).
The host team, Central York, will also compete. The Panthers are unranked this season but are the defending PIAA State Class AAA champions.
In all, a total of 20 teams will compete.
Bruce Koller, the Central head coach from 1970 until 2001, will present the championship awards. The event was started 37 years ago by Koller.
Tickets will be sold at the door each day.
